Meeting your partner's parents for the first time is a big step in any relationship, but it can be especially challenging when you're in a long-distance relationship. But, despite the geographical challenges, it's still important to make a good impression and establish a positive relationship with your partner's family from the start!

Here are some tips for making the most of your online meeting with your partner's parents:
Be prepared: As simple as it sounds, make sure you know a little bit about them before jumping on the call. Ask your partner about their interests, hobbies, and what they like to talk about. This will give you a sense of what to expect and give you some conversation starters.
Dress nicely: Even though the meeting is online, it's still important to make a good first impression. So dress nicely, as if you were meeting them in person. It will show that you respect and value the opportunity to meet them.
Speak their language: Literally - speak their language. If they are not able or confident speaking in your language, try your best to aliviate some of the burden on them and your partner to transalte for you. It's showing effort and trying to say a couple of words in their language will earn you some serious brownie points. See our other post on the importance of learning your partner's langage here.
Be respectful: Remember that this is your partner's family, and they may have certain traditions or customs that you're not familiar with. Be respectful of their beliefs and opinions, even if you don't agree with them.
Plan for an online activity: To make the meeting more interesting and interactive, plan for an online activity that everyone can participate in. It could be something as simple as playing a game or watching a movie together.
Meeting your partner's parents online may not be the traditional way of doing things, but it's still a significant step in your relationship. By following these tips, you'll be able to make a great first impression and establish a positive relationship with your partner's family.
And, who knows, maybe soon you will be able to meet them in person!
